Well it's been a whole lousy month since we bought the farmhouse and we're off to a super-slow start. Our schedules have been really busy with baseball for both older kids. Roger's work schedule has been off the hook. Both of our trucks broke at the same time. Well, sort of. The one has been broken for a long time, we just finally looked into what was actually the problem (new heads - ouch). The work truck decided to fart out on us too, it just got a new transmission (also ouch). Soooo... we should be back in business this weekend.
One of the first things that needs to happen is to take down all the old wooden trim gently so we can preserve it. We'll need to label each piece so we know where to put it back at the end and find a place to store it. Then we can go in with hammers swinging and rip down walls. The kids are definitely looking forward to this! The plan is to get moving on the trim and perhaps get some of the gutting done before May 10 - the beginning of our Mickey Mouse Spectacular 2012 - a road trip to Walt Disney World with stops in North Carolina and Jacksonville, FL to see some of our favorite people in the whole world. When we get back from Disney with our tank-top tans and a full dose of exhaustion, we can dive headfirst into the rest of the plan for the house.
The master bedroom is getting an addition which was also create a bigger hall bath. The third floor, which was transformed into an "apartment" by sealing off the hallway entrance to the 5th bedroom and removing a door in between the 2 bedrooms, will be restored back to 2 separate bedrooms with the hallway re-opened. The kitchen on the first floor (which was a shithole with a poor layout) will be torn down and rebuilt with a better layout, modern appliances and extra space. So there's a sneak peek of some our big plans for the farmhouse. Stay tuned for pics from this weekend as we start on the trim and let the kids make some holes in the wall.
Welcome to our little piece of the web! This blog began as a way to update family with our progress on renovating a local farmhouse that we purchased in 2012, but it quickly morphed into family and life updates as our small business took off and we added more children to the family.
